About The Double Strainer
Founded in 2024 by award-winning mixologist Riccardo Grechi, The Double Strainer is a digital media and training project dedicated to cocktails, bars and global drinking culture.
The goal is simple: turn the kind of knowledge usually kept behind the bar or in staff rooms into clear, practical resources that any serious bartender or bar manager can use.
What you’ll find on The Double Strainer
Here you’ll find:
-
weekly articles on cocktail techniques, prep and fundamentals
-
recipes for classic and modern drinks
-
deep dives on ingredients and bar equipment
-
bar-business and management insights
-
interviews and stories about the people behind the industry
Everything is written from the point of view of someone who actually runs bars, trains teams and builds beverage programs – not from the outside looking in.
Who is behind The Double Strainer
The Double Strainer is primarily a one-person project, led and written by Riccardo Grechi.
Most of what you read here – from the first draft of an article to the last spec of a cocktail – is created by Riccardo, based on real service, training sessions and bar openings he has worked on.
From time to time, he may invite trusted bartenders, bar managers or consultants to contribute ideas and guest pieces. When that happens, it will be clearly credited.
Sometimes you’ll see the word “we” on this site. It reflects the fact that no bartender works in a vacuum: every article is influenced by the teams, bars and colleagues Riccardo has worked with over the years. But the responsibility for every opinion, technique and idea published here is his.
What drives The Double Strainer
Behind every piece of content there are a few simple beliefs:
-
drink culture is about much more than what’s in the glass – it’s about people, places and stories
-
good technique and solid fundamentals beat trends and gimmicks
-
bar-business numbers (labor, COGS, systems) matter as much as recipes
-
knowledge should be generous, practical and honest, not gatekept
The aim is to help bartenders, bar managers and serious home enthusiasts:
-
understand why things work, not only how
-
run better specs and more consistent service
-
build bars and teams that can perform even when the “boss” is not on shift
Beyond the website
The Double Strainer doesn’t stop at articles. Based in Kuala Lumpur, Riccardo also works with bars, hotels and brands to offer:
-
mixology training for bartenders and bar managers
-
menu and beverage-program design
-
bar consulting on cost control, systems and service flows
-
focused workshops on topics such as ice & dilution, clarification, carbonation and menu engineering
The website, newsletter and in-person training are designed to support each other: what is tested in real bars becomes content, and what is shared online is meant to be put into practice behind a real station.
